Fieldwork
May - July, 1992
UNL Field School, Thomas Kennard House
Instructor: Dr. Peter Bleed, UNL
- Excavated and mapped features associated with a demolished wing of the Thomas Kennard House, a historic site in Lincoln, NE, and the site of the Nebraska Statehood Memorial.
- Operated a field laboratory for washing, treating, sorting, and inventorying artifacts.

UNL Field School, Hudson-Meng Bison Boneyard
Instructor: Dr. LuAnn Wandsnider, UNL
- Surveyed archaic hearth features and mapped artifact occurances with a laser total
station in northwestern Nebraska, near the Hudson-Meng Bison Boneyard.
June - September, 1993
University of North Dakota, Lake Ilo Project: Archaeological Assistant
Principal Investigator: Dr. Matthew Root, Washington State University
- Excavated at the Bobtail Wolf site, a complexly-stratified Folsom site associated
with nearby Knife River Flint quarries in western North Dakota.
- Operated large-scale wetscreening.
- Mapped artifact occurances with a laser total station. Mapped stratigraphic profiles.
May - August, 1994
UND, Lake Ilo Project: Advanced Archaeological Assistant
Principal Investigator: Dr. Matthew Root, Washington State University
- Same duties as Archaeological Assistant (above) at the Bobtail Wolf site, as well
as other expanded duties:
- Supervised up to 5 UND field school students and Archaeological
Assistants in excavation, mapping, and waterscreening.
- Checked crew's artifact catalogs and record forms for errors.
- Operated laser total station to maintain control grid and map artifact occurances.

Mariah Associates/Austin, Jewett Mines Survey: Field Technician
Field Supervisor: Jay Peck, Mariah Associates/Austin
- Conducted a pedestrian survey of proposed lignite mine expansion area near Buffalo, Texas.
- Dug shovel tests and made soil descriptions.
- Mapped potential historic and
prehistoric sites.

Mariah Associates/Laramie, Altamont Pipeline Project: Field Technician

- Conducted phase II testing of sites along a pipeline easement near Lander, Rock Springs,
and Green River, Wyoming.
- Dug shovel tests and excavated test units.
- Conducted pedestrian surface surveys.
- Mapped stratigraphic profiles and made soil descriptions.

Kansas State Historical Society: Engineering Technician Associate
Principal Investigator: Marlin Hawley, Kansas State Historical Society
- Excavated pit features at three late prehistoric village sites near Arkansas City, Kansas.
- Mapped pit and soil profiles and made soil descriptions.
- Washed, sorted, and treated artifacts at a field laboratory.
- Operated full-recovery flotation of excavated materials.
June - August, 1996
Nash Harbor Archaeological Project
Project Coordinator: Dennis Griffin, University of Oregon
- Excavated house floors and garbage middens at Elikaarmiut, a late prehistoric to protohistoric village site at Nash Harbor, Nunivak Island, Alaska.
- Assisted planning of excavation and recovery strategies, and research designs.
- Surveyed site for establishment of control grid.
- Mapped stratigraphic profiles and made soil descriptions.
- Helped coordinate efforts of local high school student employees hired through the Summer Youth Employment Program.
- Helped plan and prepare meals, and other logistical duties.

- Sorted light and heavy flotation fraction from several late prehistoric sites in central Nebraska.
- Catalogued artifacts.
- Surveyed potential late prehistoric sites near St. Paul, Nebraska.

UNL: Laboratory in Historical Archaeology

- Catalogued and analyzed late 19th Century and early 20th Century medicine bottles
recovered from a portion of the Thomas Kennard House site.
- Discussed issues of historical archaeology, such as Consumer Choice Theory and the use of industrial literature in dating historic artifacts.
